In the heart of Soho, London, history and modern design meet underfoot at The Boulevard Theatre, once former sister venue to Raymond Revuebar.
A Cultural Landmark in Soho
In the heart of Soho, London, history and modern design meet underfoot. The Boulevard Theatre, once the sister venue to the legendary Raymond Revuebar, has long been part of the area’s colourful cultural fabric. Over the years it has transformed from cabaret and revue to theatre, closing and reopening with new life and new stories to tell.
Honouring the Past, Designing for the Present
When SODA Architects took on the 2019 redevelopment, the vision was clear: to honour the building’s legacy while creating a contemporary dining and theatre experience that would resonate with today’s audience. Every element of the design needed to reflect both elegance and durability, and the flooring became a key part of that narrative.
Chevron with a Contemporary Twist
For the Boulevard Theatre Restaurant Bar, SODA selected Chevron oak flooring, refined with a brass inlay that lends a subtle yet striking detail to the space. Supplied by Hørning, the 210 square metres of solid oak Chevron not only anchor the interior but also provide a warm, tactile surface that complements the theatre’s layered history.

A Floor That Echoes Performance
The choice of Chevron was deliberate. With its timeless geometry and strong directional lines, the pattern echoes the rhythm and dynamism of the performances staged in the theatre itself. The addition of the brass strip heightens the sense of sophistication, bridging tradition and contemporary craft in a way that feels perfectly at home in Soho’s eclectic design culture.
Setting the Stage for the Future
This project stands as a testament to how a material choice, in this case solid oak parquet, can both respect a building’s heritage and set the stage for its future. In the Boulevard Theatre Restaurant Bar, the floor is more than a surface, it is part of the performance, connecting past and present in a single, seamless gesture.
